Program Overview
The program is designed to meet the unique needs of children of migratory agricultural workers by providing both supplemental educational and support services. - Any child 3 to 21 years old who has not graduated from high school or obtained GED diploma. - At least one member of the household should be working or had worked in agricultural jobs during the last three years. - Must have moved from one school district to another seeking temporary or seasonal agricultural work during the last three years. - The agricultural work must be the main source of providing a living to the household. Agricultural work includes meat packing, nurseries, dairies, animal farms, and any harvesting, picking, or planting in a field. * The Migrant Education Program assists schools with English as a Second Language (ESL), bilingual education, reading and math programs, tutoring, and summer school. * High school students can apply for Migrant Scholarships and HHLA. * Adult ESL classes and GED, if requirements are not met. * Free breakfast and lunch at school for students for the 3 years. * The bilingual Resource Coordinator is available to assist parents with information to various services offered in the schools and the Emporia Community, including but not limited to the following: Parenting Employment Immigration Taxes Food Legal Counseling Health/Dental Credit Counseling Housing Preschool GED/ESLEducation services
