The MCEF has many literacy programs including the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, teacher mini-grants, scholarships to college for high school seniors, and many others. A major program we assist with is the McMinn County Adult Education HiSet program both at the center and at the local justice center. We also help sponsor a program called Let's Read 20 which has as its mission to get hands into the hands of all of our citizens. We have 22 Little Libraries that are kept supplied with books for families to take and keep. We also have a LR20 Book Bus that goes into low income neighborhoods, to festivals, and other local events for giving away thousands of books. A new program we will begin soon is putting together Family Literacy Packets to give to parents to help give them suggestions about ways to effectively read and interact with their children will cost about $10 each, The packet will include a couple of children's books with suggested activities to go with the books. An activity book with writing and reading activities based on the children's age and grade will be in the packet. There will also be a small dry erase board and markers, crayons, pencils, and erasers. Included, also, will be information concerning local agencies that provide services that the families may need.Education services
