Program Overview

McDowell Technical Community College
College and Career Readiness Adult Education

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) department mission is to equip students with academic skills and knowledge to select a career and complete the program of study associated with that career. CCR instruction is student-focused to help students develop vital math, reading, and communication knowledge and skills required to enter college or employment. Students are supported in developing an individual career path to help them track their progress during their educational and career journey.

With students, department team members are dedicated to providing guidance and advisement for successful transition into a post-secondary education institution or into the workforce through College and Career Readiness courses of:

Pre-high school equivalency preparation in language arts and math
Pre-college courses: Adult High School, English Language Acquisition, High School Equivalency Test preparation

Career-focused courses/pathways include:
Advanced Manufacturing - Region C WFD NC Works Certified Pathway
Allied Health - Region C WFD NC Works Certified Pathway Integrated English Literacy Civics Education Nurse Aid 1

Career awareness and work-related skills are integrated into all instruction to reinforce student academics with the relevancy and application of learned skills. Programs include:

High School Equivalency Testing
Integrated English Literacy
