Program Overview

Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center's (MRNC) mission is to empower individuals by serving as a resource for help and hope. MRNC offers a continuum of program and services centered around a long-held belief in the value of life-long learning and participation as a means to achieving financial stability.

Programs include:

Early Learning: In partnership with Family Development Services, over 175 children ages 1-5 in southwest Indianapolis participate in Head Start and Early Learning Head Start. This free service provides a critical support for working parents.

Youth Enrichment: Children and youth ages 4-18 participate in before and after school, tutoring and mentoring, and summer day camp activities; pre-teens ages 11-14 explore colleges and careers, including careers in key economic sectors. Over 80% of parents report that these services help them to miss less work and demonstrate the importance of these programs.

Community School Services: MRNC serves as a fiscal agent and lead partner for community school services at three schools in southwest Indianapolis (IPS #46, IPS #49, and George Washington Community High School). Services are focused on equipping students to graduate and go to college, vocational training, and/or career.

Emergency Help Services: MRNC helps families in crisis to meet immediate basic needs. Services include food pantry, evening meal program, and emergency rent and utility assistance.

Employment/Center for Working Families Services: MRNC helps individuals and families prepare for, find, and retain jobs and build new financial stability. Services include High School equivalency (HSE), formerly called GED classes, “bundled" individualized coaching services, public benefits enrollment, job club, computer career training, and English as a second language classes.
