Program Overview
The Marion County Literacy Council enriches quality of life for adults by helping them improve their literacy skills. Adults - people age 16 and above - enter into our program to build core, functional literacy skills, including obtaining their GED, taking English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, working with an Adult Basic Education tutor to improve fundamental reading, writing, and math skills, and building core financial literacy skills. GED and ABE students receive weekly one-on-one tutoring tailored to their specific educational needs. They accomplish goals like obtaining their GED, obtaining their driver's license, preparing for college entrance exams, employment certification exams, and helping their children with their homework for school. Our ESOL program provides students with bi-weekly classroom instruction for students whose goals include to learn English to increase their written and verbal communication fluency, apply for jobs, and obtain their United States citizenship.
