Program Overview
Making The Mark GED and Tutoring Program helps individuals who are trying to learn about the GED incentives, tutoring, and online studies. Classes are set up once initial orientation is done by appointment and if this program is not accommodating a participant we do referrals to other sites.
The GED incentives are better employment and College Ready Program to obtain a degree from a higher learning institution that will accept GED to further education for a degree.
Making The Mark Homeschool Academy is a subsidiary of this program and been in existence for 20 years, these participants are able to enroll in the homeschool setting with more personal attention to either raise their academic levels and re-enroll to a public-school setting or to graduate with a homeschool diploma. We have been successful for those to go on and get jobs with GE, Ford, and various healthcare service provider.
Making the Mark is now partners with the NURTURING Program, Pillar of Empowerment for parents and youth who need family management skills and empowerment to change high risk behaviors to positive factor, which will give hope were families who engage positively will move forward with better goals in education, employment, home development, social skills, and community resilience.
Marking The Mark Enrichment Program is for youth who needs assistance in reading during the summer. The program is not limited to reading only but also other subjects that youth may have problems with that slow the progress of obtaining a better grade in school. Youth also receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks as well as incentives for attending the program. This program sponsored by BLOCS, Metro United Way, Metro Louisville Government, and Norfolk Community Area Council, Inc., Jefferson County Public Schools Nutrition Services, California United Inc., Sparrow House, Vision First Ministries, LLC, and Kristy Love Foundation.
Family Literacy Enrichment and Engagement Program consist of parents, guardian, and the community to learn more of programs that build empowerment, education, job readiness skills, and to become self-sufficient. Many of our participants are referred from case management, newsletters, and networking programs.

Delain M. Hunter has volunteered as the outreach coordinator at Community Connections Resource Center. She was able to use this title for job experience and because of her dedication, she is now the Outreach Laison between KY and Plano TX.
Joevonne Jones who attended the Making the Mark GED tutoring services and has graduated from our program in 2005. She is now pursuing her education as a Registered Nurse. She was able to obtain her CNA, attend ATA and know attending Sullivan University.
Mikale Berry who attended the Making the Mark GED tutoring services has graduated in 2011 and she received her experience in health care with Morning Star Home Services in relocated to TX and currently work for All BEST CARE SERVICES. She received the National CNA Award in 2025 from Argyle TX and was able to come home in KY and be among 250 ALL BEST CARE CEOs the board and the owner be honored among 9 other nominees.
Pillar of Empowerment for family engagement, education, and employment has trained two more volunteer facilitators, Yvonne M. Woods and Yvonne Bald. These two women have been involved with the community for 30 years. They were able reach out high-risk communities and the program is now being implemented in the California Area of Jefferson County and as well as First Neighborhood Place for workshops sessions. Hopefully this program will move toward prevention and intervention service nationally.
