Program Overview

Literacy Volunteers of Monongalia and Preston Counties (LVMPC) provides free, innovative, and confidential adult and family literacy education. Our award-winning educational programming is designed to improve basic skills, enhance essential capabilities, and increase the self-sufficiency of our adult learners and their families. All of our services are free, individually customized, and open to anyone who has a need to learn with our highly trained staff and volunteer tutors.

LVMPC believes that free and open access to basic literacy education is a fundamental human right. We believe all individuals who have the desire to learn should have the right to improve their We envision a community
where all individuals possess the essential literacy abilities, skills, and knowledge necessary to break the intergenerational cycle of illiteracy, battle poverty, communicate effectively in English, be active proponents of their children's education, choose healthy lifestyle practices, make informed financial choices, utilize technology to better their lives, grow their employment options, and develop the necessary self-sufficiency and capability
to realize their full potentials. Our dedicated volunteers and staff work hard to provide the necessary resources and educational support for learners struggling with basic literacy skills to realize their fullest potential by
participating meaningfully and effectively in their communities, workplaces, and families. Our innovative programming is designed to target the strong need of our learners by offering free educational supports that increase self-reliance, improve income sustainability, encourage continued educational attainment, support holistic family literacy, and remove barriers to resource access for our learners and their families.
