Program Overview

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) is to promote literacy throughout the community by providing student-centered tutoring and literacy programs for adults so that they may function more effectively in their daily lives. Our mission is founded on the belief that the ability to read and communicate in English is imperative to leading a productive life, and is essential for the protection of individual freedom and equality of all people. We accomplish our mission by recruiting and training volunteers to provide the following services: One-to-One and Small Group Tutoring; English Conversation Groups; and U.S. Citizenship Preparation Classes.

To learn more about becoming a literacy volunteer or to request services please contact LVSC at (908) 725-5430 or visit our website (LiteracySomerset.org).

Cost Info

Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County's services are offered free-of-charge, with the exception of two administrative fees for students who seek our tutoring services: $10 for a student pre-assessment and $50 when students are matched with a tutor.
