Program Overview

Do you struggle with reading? Have you always needed more time to read or think about what you have read? Do you have a child struggling with reading and are being told "let's just wait and see" by the school? We can help. Our two hour screening appointments help identify dyslexia and provide advocacy support, documentation, and resources to help anyone succeed! We support learning on the Western Slope of Colorado.

Cost Info

We have a sliding scale for the dyslexia screening and intervention support we offer. Base fees for screening and consultation begin at $80 but we often have grants to cover the cost for individuals.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

After watching my grandson, K, struggle with reading throughout his elementary and middle school years and after repeated requests from his parents for testing were dismissed by his schools, I went to the Internet to find another way for him to be tested for dyslexia. I found The Dyslexia Foundation of Western Colorado and contacted them. I received immediate response and an appointment was scheduled for evaluation. Their testing revealed that, indeed, he has Irlen's Syndrome. The look on his face when he came out of the evaluation meeting was priceless. It brought tears to my eyes! After being bullied by his peers and told by school personnel that he just needed to “try harder", he finally had the knowledge that he is not stupid, but has a learning difference that can be addressed and managed. The Dyslexia Foundation has supported and guided K and his parents as they have approached the school, demanding proper accommodations and the support he needs to succeed. This past school year, his 8 th grade, he was failing all his classes the first semester. At a meeting with the school counselor and assistant principal, discussion of his needs resulted in an IEP that has given him what he has needed to finish up the school year with one A, two B's, and two C's! Without the support, guidance, and encouragement of the Dyslexia Foundation of Western Colorado this would not have been possible! --- Thankful Grandma Martha
