Program Overview

LVK was founded in 1973 and serves communities in Kennebec County. Services are free, confidential and private to anyone over 18 with a need to improve reading, writing, and/or speaking. We provide support for financial and medical/health literacy needs and English as a Second Language (ESOL). LVK is a partner with area Adult Education programs. LVK is a strong advocate for family literacy and is a member of two Literacy For ME area teams. LVK conducts StoryWalks and Family Literacy fun days.

The LVA office is located in the back of the parking lot with a prominent sign by the door. We are all on one floor with easy access. LVK strives to ensure a productive and inclusive environment for all members of our diverse community, which includes people of all abilities, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, nationalities, religious traditions, socioeconomic classes, and ages.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

1.) A learner who had always been told she was stupid, said "Now I am somebody."

2.)"We came to Augusta after a long drive. When my daughter started in school, I started to think about our life and first was how to find job for my husband and I kept searching for a chance for him but unfortunately was nothing available! Finally, I found the information about the Career Center and I signed up for Medical coding course which was an offer for me and I thought that if I attend it will be encouraging for my husband to do his best. I always found private time for me to do my homework and the exams with the whole support of great teacher, from Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta - Linda ❤️She is always here to help me and teach me how to hold the matter and pass the hard test she is my teacher, my sister and my mother and my friend and everything for me without her i was nothing Such a great person for me and taking care of me I love her so so so much all of my grateful for her."
