Program Overview
Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County provides free tutoring in one-to-one, small group or classroom venues for adults 18 years and older who need to improve their English literacy skills in reading, writing and speaking. We also provide tutoring in math and for those adults whose testing scores are too low to enter ABE/GED programs along with US Citizenship Preparation Classes and family literacy classes. By providing professional training for volunteer tutors we use our trained volunteer tutors to address the needs of these adult students at no cost.
Student and Volunteer Success Stories
"I think literacy is important to get ahead in life and I always felt held back because of my lack of literacy. It has been hard going on job interviews or getting the job and then having to go to orientation and having people make fun of me because of my reading. School wasn't always a positive experience for me because it was hard for me to learn but after coming to LV Monmouth and meeting with a tutor, I found I LOVE to learn.
If you want to learn bad enough you will achieve it but you must fight for it and have a positive attitude, determination and drive. Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County is an excellent program and what they are doing is life changing."
