Program Overview

For 54 years, Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties (LVBTC) has helped adult learners achieve positive changes in their own lives, in the lives of their families, and in their community. Our mission is to assist adults in developing basic literacy skills. This includes helping students improve their reading and writing, basic math, and digital literacy.

We provide free, confidential Adult Basic Education/ABE, English as a Second Language/ESL, and Digital Literacy tutoring and educational labs through a learner-centered approach that values individual student needs and goals.

LVBTC helps adults gain the skills needed to earn a high school diploma, transition to post-secondary education and career training, enter the workforce, retain a job or move to a higher paying job, prepare for the citizenship test, help their children succeed in school, and help their families gain greater financial stability.

We serve individuals at least 16 years of age, not enrolled in high school, and who need help with basic reading, math, computer skills, or conversational English (English as a Second Language/ESL).
