Program Overview

The Literacy Council of Carroll County provides free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring to adult clients who wish to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. We also offer GED and pre-GED preparation, as well as training in essential life skills, such as obtaining a driver's license. The Literacy Council provides the same services to non-English speaking (ESOL) residents to help them learn English and obtain citizenship.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

As a non-governmental, non-profit, primarily volunteer organization, our tutors and volunteers are the driving force in making a positive impact on our students and community. Tutors tailor their support to meet the needs of the individual student, helping to transform lives. Success is as personal and varied as our students, and may mean becoming a citizen, gaining the skills to get a job or be eligible for a promotion, learning to read, preparing to take the CDL written exam, learning English, or opening a bank account and balancing a checkbook.
