Program Overview
Literacy Connection, Inc. is a trailblazing, community-based nonprofit organization committed to raising literacy levels in young children and their families. We provide unique literacy experiences that transform our participants' passion for reading, increase literacy levels and encourage family engagement. Our researched based, results driven program services targeting elementary age students include: the OPERATION: R.E.A.D. Literacy Bus, Summer Camp and After School Programs as well our award-winning parent/ family workshops.
· The goal of our Literacy Bus is to ignite the child's passion for reading through storytelling that strengthens vocabulary and distributes books to build home libraries.
· Our Summer camp is designed to reduce summer slide, close the enrichment gap and provide experiential field trips.
· Our newly created afterschool program provides students with homework help, enrichment activities, and intensive tutoring in reading and math.
· The core of our organization is our parent/family workshops that empower parents to be actively involved in the academic careers of their children by building their self-efficacy, increasing their knowledge and skills, strengthening the home-school-community partnership and curating a community of families that share experiences of promoting literacy at home.

There is a fee for OPERATION: R.E.A.D. Literacy Bus on-site field trip.The goal of this initiative is to ignite the child’s passion for reading by strengthening vocabulary through interactive storytelling and by the distribution of literacy boosting products including children’s books, our standards-based OPERATION: R.E.A.D. Coloring Activity Book and crayons. Furthermore, we have strategically infused standards aligned benchmarks with core reading skills in the lesson design and application of our mobile literacy experience. We have three tours. Level 1 Tour $18 includes interactive storytelling on the literacy bus, a literacy bag with our signature standards based coloring activity book and literacy boosting items. Level 2 Tour $20- includes interactive storytelling on the literacy bus, a literacy bag with our signature standards based coloring activity book, literacy boosting items and children’s book. Level 3 Tour $22- includes interactive storytelling on literacy bus, an on-site project, a literacy bag with our signature standards based coloring activity book, literacy boosting items and children’s book. The OPERATION: R.E.A.D. Summer Camp is $100 per week/per child however temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. The OPERATION: R.E.A.D. Afterschool Program $75 per week.
