Program Overview

Do you want to improve your English? The Newton Free Library can help! Our award-winning English Language Learning and Literacy program helps adult English language learners who want to improve their English and learn about American culture. We also help native English speakers who would like to work on their reading and writing skills. Our learners are at all levels of English proficiency and have diverse needs, interests, and goals.

Our wonderful volunteer tutors are caring members of the community who help integrate learners into an English-speaking world. Volunteer tutors provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring in addition to leading larger classes and conversation groups.
