Program Overview
Khan Ohana Foundation is involved with the Afghan Refugee resettlement program in Tulsa. One of the major challenges facing the Afghan refugees is lack of English language skills. Many of them are pre-literate in that they cannot read or write in their native language. This has hindered their ability to take jobs that they may otherwise be qualified for. It has also negatively impacted their ability to assimilate into their new communities. KOF realized the gravity of the situation and started a pilot program for teaching English to this population. We seek to expand this program by helping as many refugees as possible.
