Program Overview
Want to improve the reading skills of everyone in your household? The Metro East Literacy Project (MELP) offers one-on-one reading tutoring for children and adults in the Illinois Metro St. Louis area. We meet families where they are—often right at the kitchen table, or another comfortable learning space. Tutoring services are free or offered on a sliding scale.
Research shows that short, individualized tutoring sessions make a big difference. One-on-one tutoring helps readers improve faster, build confidence, and stay on track. Studies have found that students who receive personal reading support are more likely to meet reading goals and show steady growth, even with short sessions. Ongoing tutoring during the school year has helped many students move up in reading levels and improve reading success overall.
Kitchen Table Tutoring is designed to support the whole family and make reading a part of everyday life.
