Program Overview

The Kinston Promise Mentor and Literacy Volunteer program provides encouragement and academic support to youth in grades 3-12. Students participate in the Kinston Promise 21st Century Community Learning Centers in Kinston and LaGrange, North Carolina. Programs are offered in an afterschool or Saturday Academy setting.

Mission Statement

Kinston Promise Neighborhood is a comprehensive approach to educating children and strengthening families in the town of Kinston, a mid-size community in eastern North Carolina. Kinston Promise Neighborhood, Inc. works through existing community-based programs to create a continuum of "cradle-through-college" solutions to improve the academic and developmental outcomes for children at all stages of growth: early learning, elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.

Hours of operation: 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m.

Program’s Demographics/Metrics

Kinston Promise Neighborhood serves students in grades K-12. Our students live in some of the most distressed neighborhoods in our community. Nearly 90% of our program participants qualify for free or reduced school lunch.
