Program Overview

We operate an after school program and learning center for children ages 5 – 12. The learning center is located in the lounge and meeting rooms of Martins motel and is operational Monday – Friday 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The children served are members of low-income families who live in the cities of Marion County and are within 30 miles of the facility. We provide safe, caring, learning environments, with access to cutting -edge technology and educational programs tailored to fit the individual needs of school-aged children and their parents. We hope to help children reach their maximum potential, achieve their educational goals, and acquire well-rounded social and economic skills to ensure their success in life. We serve children who are reading two or more grade levels below their instructional reading level and require specific reading intervention strategies to strengthen their reading skills. We provide comprehensive and detailed diagnostic programs to asses reading comprehension abilities.

The program will assist children in various modes of instruction by providing small group, whole group, flexible, pull out, and fixed ability groups. The program will also provide extensive independent reading, literature studies, and guided reading services. Reading fluency is also a principle service that the program will provide.

The program will provide students extensive time on computer software programs designed to assist the students in reading comprehension and fluency.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

At the end of the school year of 2017 I discovered the King's Court Summer Reading Program. My son was in 4th grade at the time and was seriously struggling with reading. He was not on his level and could barely read a page and did not understand what he read. Looking for something new to try to help him, I enrolled him in the reading program and hoped for the best. He spent the summer having fun and working one on one with a reading tutor daily. He loved the program! By the end of the summer there was a significant change in his reading. Not only was he reading better, but I saw his self-esteem and confidence rise. He was no longer ashamed to read out loud. King's Court made him feel comfortable even when he made mistakes. I am grateful for the help that we received and my son has done much better in school as a result of the summer program.
