Program Overview

Kentucky Humanities reaches thousands of people of all ages across all 120 counties in Kentucky by offering such programs as Chautauqua, the Speakers Bureau, Prime Time Family Reading Time®, the Kentucky Book Festival, access to minigrants, special events, and more. Prime Time Family Reading Time® is a six week reading, discussion, and storytelling program held at public libraries or schools. A university scholar and a storyteller (who act as discussion leaders) conduct weekly storytelling and discussion sessions based on award-winning children's picture books. Participants are elementary age children and their families. Chautauqua Characters bring the history to life for audiences ranging from elementary school students, to private groups and clubs, and beyond. The From unique Kentucky cuisine, bourbon, and music to politics, Kentucky culture, and African America history, our Speakers Bureau features a fantastic group of the Commonwealth's finest scholars, historians, writers, and poets. Added to our programs within the last few years, the Kentucky Book Festival reaches thousands of readers each November and is one of the premier literary events of the region.
