Program Overview
Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Brandy Stafford dropped out of Sheldon Clark at the age of sixteen. Although she enjoyed the social nature of school, she did not like the classes. After starting her family, Brandy began GED classes at Martin County Adult Education in Inez. Although Brandy began classes as a Drug Court requirement, it wasn't very long until she was attending classes because she wanted to. She likes being able to help her two kids complete their math work.
In her time at the Learning Center, Brandy was the first to attend the New Opportunity School for Women, earned her National Career Readiness Certificate, and passed three parts of her GED test. Brandy stopped attending classes for a time after failing the math test, but she decided that she would overcome her fears of math and came back to class. With just a few days of hard work, Brandy was able to pass her math test and earn her GED. Now with her GED, Brandy has earned her dream job of a peer support specialist for Mountain Comprehensive Care.
Brandy was named "Most Dedicated Student" at her GED graduation for her continued persistence in working toward her goals. To those desiring to complete their education, Brandy encourages you to "feel like you have accomplished something, and get your GED.
