Program Overview
Citizenship Classes
JFS offers citizenship classes to prepare clients to pass the naturalization interview and test. Class curriculum includes lessons based on the USCIS 100 Questions and activities to improve your English reading & writing skills, and interview skills. Current classes are held at JFS offices on Monday Evenings from 5:30pm - 7:00pm as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. One-on-one tutoring is available if you are unable to attend classes.There is a $50 fee for citizenship classes.
ESL Classes
The program offers instruction at various levels of English language proficiency, including Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced, as well as test taking and work-related English skills for the advanced speaker.
The ESL program at JFS is more than a language training curriculum. It is also designed to provide students with social, cultural, and practical skills. In addition to computer training, resume writing, interview practice, classes regularly include workshops and field skills to help students adjust to their new community and to life in the U.S. A group of dedicated volunteers supplement the class as Conversation Partners who work one-on-one with students to provide individualized instruction and conversation practice.
Class hours: 10:00 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 3:00- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
