Program Overview
Each year the ILLINOIS READS Committee choses 36 books written by Illinois authors, or authors with ties to Illinois. A celebration of those books is held at a Book Festival in the Spring. It is a magical day with student writers, author presentations and literacy activities for all ages.
ILLINOIS READS partners with the Illinois State Library. Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White is our Honorary Chair. Agriculture in the Classroom partners with us to highlight books with ag themes or content. We rely on this organization to aid us in our efforts to reach students through STEAM related lessons and activities.
Each year public and school libraries receive a poster with the covers of each of the 36 books, thanks to our partners at the Illinois State Library.
Because this is a state-wide effort, we move the Illinois Reads Book Festival around the state. We want all Illinois citizens to be readers-A Reading State of Mind!
