IIMD ESL Program

Program Overview

Since the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit's [IIMD] inception in 1919, the agency has provided English Language Instruction [ESL] to English Language learners from diverse backgrounds.

IIMD has partnered with the Detroit Public Schools Community District since 1958 to provide beginning, intermediate and advanced English Language Instruction to adult learners. IIMD also offers community based instruction to diverse populations and faiths. Curriculums are specifically created to meet the unique needs of each community. Furthermore, IIMD offers basic computer instruction and citizenship preparation classes.

Instructors are highly qualified and understand the dynamics of learning a second language as they teach from a culturally competent prospective and are sensitive to the needs of immigrants and refugees.
