Program Overview

Nationally recognized with a Library of Congress Best Practices Literacy Award, LVGH provides adult education programs that meet the unique learning needs of low literate adults. LVGH's mission is to create a community of fully literate adults through student-centered instruction that catalyzes career readiness and advancement. Supervised by professional educators, trained volunteers teach small groups in person and online in ESOL, Basic Literacy, Grammar/Writing, Digital Literacy, Math, Citizenship and high school completion preparation. Career Pathways provides career counseling, job readiness, training and placement, and post-placement support for student and employer. The food services training program teaches literacy skills within the context of learning culinary skills and earning ServSafe Food Handler certification. Coached by a professional chef, trainees gain kitchen experience preparing community meals and employment at an LVGH employer partner upon successful completion.
