Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Tarnisha didn't believe she could return to school as an adult. Having not finished high school due to external influences, she dropped out and had her first child at the age of 13. She was never quite able to give up on her dream, however, of making her mother proud and being a good role model to her girls.
Tarnisha started her time here at GLA in 2015 with the goal of finally getting her GED after ultimately realizing that no one is ever too old to return to school, . After a short time, she passed three out of the four subjects of the exam but eventually had to take a break in her studies due to family life.
After having her last child in 2017, Tarnisha returned to GLA in January 2018 and enrolled in GLA's intensive GED Bootcamp hoping to finally knock out the math section of the GED to complete her high school equivalency.
So now, her long and emotional journey is over. GLA is happy to announce that Tarnisha is a GLA GED graduate who will walk in a cap and gown in our graduation ceremony in May! To make this even more of a success story, Tarnisha is currently enrolling in Greenville Technical College's Health Information Management program. She has always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare and this Associate's program seems to be just the right fit for a busy mom like herself. We are very proud of Tarnisha and her determination to make her dreams a reality and to be a good example to her children!
