Program Overview

Girls of Transformation's (GOT) mission is to equip and empower girls through mentoring, education, and life skills training.

GOT is focused on mentoring-related activities for Black girls ages 8-18, to build life skills, such as accountability and self-empowerment and participate in community service learning. GOT's year-round afterschool and summer mentoring program teaches girls how to communicate with their parents and peers. Girls are taught about delayed gratification and self-love in a safe, validating, and fun environment. The program includes a number of empowering and enrichment activities. Afterschool activities include lessons on healthy decision making, behavior management, conflict resolution, life skills, effective communication skills, academic, academic enrichment and tutoring, and career development. There is also a 12-week, Girls with Purpose (GWP) Mentorship Camp offered on Saturdays.

GOT's "Girl-Preneur" program activities is an entrepreneur program that includes business plan development, practical skills, workshops conducted by female entrepreneurs, job shadowing, and networking opportunities. This knowledge will prepare youth to be responsible, enterprising individuals, and entrepreneurial thinkers who we hope will empower and invigorate the local community with their innovation and business savvy.

All GOT programs have a parental engagement component, where parents are encouraged to participate in program activities. These offerings monthly workshops and a monthly family day.

Since COVID began, many of the mentoring sessions and programs are offered virtually, which now incorporates virtual study groups and a "Girls with Purpose" Book Club.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Jasmine B.- I came to this program very shy and not seeing the importance of a education because of the caring mentors they helped me to see that education is important and that it's okay to challenge myself. We did a lot of fun group activities that help me with my self-esteem. I love working with the other girls they were all nice to me. My relationship with my parents has improved. I especially loved the mother and daughter workshops. My mom and I learned how to communicate better. This program is awesome it taught me how to be better. I will be back next year.

Sarah F.- Volunteering for the afterschool program with GOT was life changing for me. Newly enrolled students will come in the program with low grades like D's and F's and by the end of the quarter grades improved to B's. Although I volunteer as a tutor for the students and I help them. In all they have helped me and given me a sense of worth as it relates to helping others. It's the best feeling in the world.
