Program Overview
We are the Immigrant Initiative, a 501(c)3 charity. We tutor Hispanics to take the eight GED tests in Spanish. There are four preliminary and four final tests, taken by computer in Spanish.
Many companies require a GED certificate for advanced positions. The State of Kentucky provides classes to support earning a GED in English, but will not use State money to support instruction in Spanish.
The Blue Grass Community and Technical College (BCTC) teamed with us, the Immigrant Initiative, to give GED training in Spanish. They also give us access to a computer room in the evenings.
Classes are held from 6-8 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays in the new Centro de San Juan Diego just west of the center of Lexington. This is one of many Hispanic activities at the Centro.
Cost Info
No charges to students. The GED tests are given by the State of Kentucky which has its own charges, but these can be reduced by our agreements with the Blue Grass Community and Technical College..Student and Volunteer Success Stories
