Program Overview

Grace Community Outreach (GCO) offers free adult literacy and English classes for people in our community who want to improve their reading, writing, and English skills. Our new department, C2C, focuses on helping adults build the language and literacy skills they need to keep a job, find a better job, or prepare for U.S. citizenship.

The program is open to adults living in underserved areas, including English language learners and individuals returning to the community after incarceration. Classes help students improve everyday English, reading, writing, and computer skills. C2C also provides workplace English support, job‑related learning, and citizenship preparation classes.

Students learn in a supportive and welcoming environment where instruction is paced to meet individual needs. Access to laptops, internet, tutoring, and referrals for transportation or other support may be available.
Classes are held at local community sites that are easy to access. No prior experience is needed. This program helps adults gain confidence, improve job opportunities, and work toward a stable, independent future.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Ashley's Story: Finding Her Voice and Her Career

When Ashley Ramirez, first came to Grace Community Outreach (GCO), she wanted to improve her English so she could communicate better at work and in her daily life. Through GCO's new C2C department, Ashley found more than ESL classes — she found support, confidence, and a clear path forward.

C2C helped Ashley strengthen her English skills while also building on the language abilities she already had. With patient instruction and personalized support, Ashley became more confident speaking, reading, and writing in English. Over time, she also became proudly bilingual, able to communicate clearly in both languages at school, at work, and with her family.

Beyond language learning, C2C helped Ashley connect her education to real career goals. She received guidance on workplace English, job readiness, and understanding medical terms used in healthcare settings. With this support, Ashley was able to prepare for employment in the medical field — a goal that once felt out of reach.

Today, Ashley sees herself differently. She sees her bilingual skills as a strength, not a barrier. She gained the confidence to apply for jobs, communicate with supervisors, and continue her education. Thanks to Grace Community Outreach and C2C, Ashley is building not just better English skills, but a stable future and a career she is proud of.
