Program Overview

Gainesville Thrives is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-deductible charitable organization. We use data-driven insights to determine the areas of greatest need and trust-based collaboration with local organizations to connect with families. Gainesville Thrives works to promote tutoring and mentoring for kindergarten through high school students, as well as other services for expectant parents, parents and their infants, toddlers, and preschool children. By informing the faith-based community and others of Gainesville's needs and opportunities, we can achieve long-term academic success for students and stronger and healthier families. We have partnered with Dolly Parton Imagination Library to provide books to children age 0 to 4 to grow a love for reading and learning to transform their educational outcomes.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

We have been receiving books through Gainesville Thrives for about 8 months now. My 3-year-old daughter and I regularly check the mail together. When a new book arrives for her each month, she squeals in delight. Waving the book around like a flag, she excitedly asks “is this my book from Dolly Parton?" as though Dolly is a long-time friend. My daughter loves exploring the colorful pages with her fingers, loves adding new words to her vocabulary, and loves identifying the feelings and emotions of all the book characters. Reading together gives us a chance to reconnect after a day at preschool, and a chance to snuggle together before bedtime. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share these moments together!
