Program Overview

Boston Public Library's Future Readers Club promotes literacy skills for the youngest library patrons and their adult caretakers. Grounded in emerging best practice in the library and education sectors, Future Readers Club's approach recognizes the essential role that caretakers play in encouraging pre-kindergarten literacy development. The program helps children ages birth to kindergarten and their caretakers read aloud, providing the tools and supports to reach the goal of reading 1,000 books together before the child enters elementary school. Benefits such as book giveaways, take-home educational materials, and infant-to-kindergarten classes and activities are available to support early literacy skills and set children on the path to becoming lifelong readers. Modeled after the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge, Future Readers Club gives Boston caregivers the resources to promote literacy skills at a crucial stage in a child's development. Club membership is available 100% free to all.
