Program Overview
ENGLISH CLASSES
Our English Classes are a great way to improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills! Each class is held once a week either online or at the Asian Center, and all classes do count towards ADC requirements. See our website for our current class times and levels.
To register: fill out this form at ACCC English Classes or contact Joy Oyebefun for more information: joy@lincolnasiancenter.org or call (402) 417-0683.
ENGLISH FOR DRIVING
Students who already have a learner's permit can make an appointment to practice driving on our driving simulator. (The simulator is a computer with a steering wheel and pedals.) Students will practice through different learning modules where it looks like you're driving a car, but in a safe environment. Appointments are once a week for one hour each. We can work around the student's schedule to set the appointment time.
**We do not have driving classes or practice in a real car at this time.
**Interpretation transportation can be provided if we have the language available and it is scheduled in advance.

One student from Sudan was referred to our Citizenship Education Program by her coworker who was familiar with our services. The student was pregnant, and we worked with her to find a class time that would work for her schedule. While at the Asian Center for class, we were also able to connect her to our Sudanese Community Advocate who could help her with other resources that she needed, such as housing and medical appointments. When she was ready to apply for citizenship, we referred her to our partner lawyer to work with her to submit her N400 application. She soon received an interview date, but it was on the same day as her due date. The lawyer was able to work with USCIS to move her interview date sooner so she could do it before her baby was born. She passed her citizenship test on the first try, and was so excited to become a citizen that she called her coworker, her teacher, the lawyer, and the citizenship coordinator to tell them the good news and to thank them for helping her through this process.
