Fond du Lac Adult Literacy Services, is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides individualized, confidential tutoring to adults in the areas of reading, writing, math and learn English. The services grew out of the recognition that thousands of people in the community cannot read or write, or whose reading and writing are so inadequate that their limited literacy has become a significant barrier in their lives. The population served is adults living in Fond du Lac County who read below the sixth grade level. Students reflect the general population of the area, and represent a number of ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds.
The mission of Fond du Lac Literacy Services is to assist adults and families with the basic skills needed to learn and prosper in the 21st Century. Using learner-centered literacy education and volunteer tutors, family literacy is fostered and the development of lifelong learning promoted. Clients served are adults 18 years and older who are reading below the 6th grade level or those individuals who need to improve their English skills. The group reflects the general population of the Fond du Lac area. Students come from various ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds. The Board of Directors is actively involved in the organization.
