Program Overview

Feed Your Brain, Alimenta Tu Cerebro is one of 5 AR-Grade Level Reading Community Solutions Initiative, its mission is for every 3rd grader to read on grade level by the year 2020, from birth to 3rd grade children learn to read and after 3rd grade they are reading to learn. Feed Your Brain is a bilingual, family reading program where parents learn and practice literacy strategies by reading cultural responsive bilingual books through direct engagement in diverse neighborhoods and schools, we have three sites, 2 Elementary Schools and an Apartment Complex. During our program we serve Latino and Marshallese students from birth to 12th grade. During our first year of summer 2013 we had a total of 13 families, 42 kids and read over 270 books. In our second year summer 2014 we had increasing attendance with 60 families and 240 children read over 355 books. In summer 2015 we had 37 families, 148 children over 1,300 books, we had kids from George Jr. High, J.O. Kelly Middle School, Parson Hills, Tyson and Springdale High School and we hope to grow more.
