Program Overview
Education is the Key to your family's success
There are four components to the Family Literacy Program:
- Adult ESL Classes: Parents attend English as a Second Language classes during the school day or after school. Childcare is provided so that parents can focus on learning. Parents learn English while also learning their children's curriculum. They simultaneously learn English and how to help their children succeed in school.
- Parent and Child Together Time (PACT): Parents visit their children's classrooms and participate in educational activities on a regular basis. They learn how to support classroom activities at home and how to increase their children's classroom success.
- Parent Collaboration Time: Parents have time to discuss together what they have learned in their children's classroom. They collaborate with the instructor to identify and develop presentations that are built around parents' interests and school-related topics. Parents also have the opportunity to participate in community events outside of the classroom.
- Children's Education: As parents learn how to assist their children, students are working hard to build literacy skills. This teamwork between schools and parents has been proven to lead to better academic outcomes for students.
Four schools currently participate in this program:
- Easton Elementary School
- Mineral Springs Elementary School
- Forest Park Elementary School
- Parkland High School

PROGRAM IS FREEStudent and Volunteer Success Stories
Veronica's story is one of true transformation.
When she first entered our school-based family literacy program, Veronica could not speak English and faced challenges with basic literacy and parenting skills. Determined to build a better future for her family, she embraced every opportunity the program offered.
While her children thrived in preschool, Veronica immersed herself in adult education classes, English language instruction, and parenting workshops. Year after year, her confidence and skills grew. She became fluent in English, strengthened her parenting practices, and discovered her own voice as a learner and leader.
Today, Veronica's journey has come full circle—she is now proudly employed as a Child Watch Worker in our family literacy program, supporting other families just as she once was supported. Her success is a powerful reminder that when families are given the right tools, growth, confidence, and opportunity follow.
