Program Overview

The Family Literacy and GED Preparation program is a 100% online program for adults, parents, and high school dropouts who want to improve reading skills, work toward a GED, and support their children's learning at the same time. Families participate together from home, removing barriers like transportation, childcare, and rigid schedules.

Adults focus on reading, writing, and understanding GED-style materials, while children take part in age-appropriate reading activities to build grade-level skills. Families also spend time reading together, learning how letters make words, words make sentences, and how punctuation helps stories make sense. This shared reading time helps parents feel confident supporting learning at home.

What makes the program different is the mix of family learning and personalized AI support. AI helps adults practice at their own pace, get extra help when needed, and overcome language barriers, while guided activities focus on real reading with children. The program builds literacy, confidence, and success for the whole family—entirely online.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Student Story 1 – Adult Learner

Maria is a parent who never finished high school and always felt nervous about reading. She joined the program because she wanted to earn her GED and help her child with school. At first, reading was slow and frustrating, but the online lessons let her practice at her own pace. The AI tutor helped explain words she didn't understand and gave feedback without pressure. Over time, Maria became more confident reading out loud with her child and working through GED practice questions. She now believes she can pass the GED and support her family's learning at home.

Student Story 2 – 19-Year-Old Dropout
James left high school at 19 after falling behind and feeling embarrassed to ask for help. He joined the program because it was online and didn't feel like a classroom. The GED lessons helped him rebuild basic reading and writing skills step by step. The AI tutor helped him understand questions, fix mistakes, and keep going when he got stuck. Reading alongside family members made learning feel less stressful. James is now working toward his GED and feels more confident about his future.

Volunteer Story – AI Instructor
Angela is a volunteer AI instructor who helps guide learners through the online program. She supports adults and young learners by showing them how to use AI tools to practice reading, understand GED materials, and stay motivated. Angela also helps families learn how to read together and use the tools responsibly. She enjoys seeing learners gain confidence and realize they are capable of learning at any age. Her role helps make the program welcoming, supportive, and effective for families learning from home.
