Program Overview
The purpose of the project is to facilitate a comprehensive family literacy program with an emphasis on literacy, parenting skills and learning for both adult learners and their children. Services will include adult education services with both ABE and ESL classroom settings with programming that will take place weekdays, evenings and Saturdays both in person and virtually. Volunteer literacy tutors will also be utilized. Child education services include a 0-3 classroom, preschool for all, and school age tutoring. Parenting education is offered both independent of and integrated in child education and PACT activities that are also held at classroom sites, within the community and virtually using the Zoom platform. Our goal is to increase literacy and ESL levels for adults by increasing families' use of library services. Parents and children will improve their literacy skills while they engage in interactive and reciprocal literacy based activities. With increased literacy and ESL levels, parents will become capable teachers for their children, increase their life skills and help with employability. Through community integration and library services families will be empowered by increased confidence in their ability to learn and improve their lives. Families will experience the joy of reading. Goals to enhance the entire family will be realized with the guidance of the Literacy Coordinator.
