Program Overview

"Families Learning Together - Early Literacy Education & Care" is a program of Early Childhood Literacy Education & Care for the children of Montague's immigrant families. It is offered in continuance to the English classes provided for parents and other adults in downtown Turners Falls by the Center for New Americans; a next step to engage with newly acquired English skills. The program acknowledges a long tradition of research on the value of family literacy, and is based on nationally recognized models. It is also responsive at the local level in that it recognizes Montague's demographics and its residents' requests and needs. An investment in early literacy for children of adults with limited English proficiency not only benefits the children and their parents, but it leverages significant public and private funding for education and support services.
