Program Overview
Erie Community Canvas is a summer art literacy and engagement initiative launched by our church in 2024. Designed as an open-air event, it invites residents of all ages to explore creativity as a tool for healing, dialogue, and empowerment. More than just painting on canvas, the program introduces participants to the language of visual expression—teaching basic artistic techniques, encouraging storytelling through art, and fostering conversations around culture, identity, and community transformation. By turning public spaces into learning environments and creative hubs, Erie Community Canvas helps cultivate a deeper appreciation for the arts while reclaiming our neighborhood with beauty and meaning.

Participant Story – Agar, age 57
“I never thought I could paint anything,” Agar shared after her first session of our indoor art workshop. “But once I picked up the brush and started, I didn’t want to stop. I enjoyed every minute of it.” For Agar, the program wasn’t just about learning art—it was about discovering a part of herself she didn’t know was there, and the people around her. Her painting now hangs proudly in her living room as a reminder that it’s never too late to try something new.
