Program Overview
English Learning Instruction - ELI English Second Language - ESL
The ELI program assists ORR funded populations and the ESL program assists general community members wanting to become more proficient in the English language. The program utilizes listening, speaking, reading, and comprehension skills. Not only is the English language learned, but an understanding of the United States culture as well. Students have a choice of morning and evening classes to assist with different schedule needs.
Classes are taught and planned by an Education Specialist. However, volunteers are always appreciated to assist with the great need of language learners. Volunteers need to be at least 21 years of age, flexible, and willing to patiently work alongside various levels and cultures.
Students wanting to learn English have the opportunity to attend classes one to two times a week depending on English level. Classes are 1 ½ hours per session. Currently, we are operating a women's class on Friday mornings at our main location, a men's class at a nearby apartment complex, and a "Conversation Hour" on Thursday mornings at our main office for anyone looking to practice English conversation in a more relaxed setting. Transportation support is offered for ELI students if needed.
For those requesting assistance with preparing for the USCIS Naturalization Interview, tutoring times can be scheduled for review of U.S. history/government questions, the English portion of the interview, and N-400 question review.
