Program Overview

The Wilderness Technology Alliance (WTA) is a technology workforce development non-profit organization serving extremely disadvantaged students and adults in the Washington DC Metro Area. The first step in achieving this is providing technology access and basic computer training. We partner with schools and non-profit organizations in the DC Metro Area to provide free and extremely low-cost laptop computers to students who do not have a computer and home, low-income adults, and the homeless. The homeless receive free computers.

Cost Info

Digital literacy and Computer Training programs are free. Low cost recovery fees charged for people who want to purchase laptop computers. Laptop computers are free for residents of area homeless shelters who complete the free 5-session computer literacy training program.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

The WTA holds free computer training programs in Washington DC area homeless shelters, providing free laptop computers to graduates of our free five-session training program. In 2018, ten of these students proceeded to take the WTA's free Cisco Academy program, completing 16 advanced training sessions and ultimately gaining Cisco ITE Certification -- an coveted IT industry certification demonstrating competence in computer service and repair.
