Program Overview

The El Paso Public Library established the Literacy Center in September 1989. Literacy Center Mission: The El Paso Public Library Literacy Center assists individuals of all ages to find the services and resources they need to learn how to read and write in English and Spanish, to become U.S. citizens, to obtain their GED, to become computer literate, to know how to use the library, and to help them achieve their goals and develop their knowledge and potential.

Located in the Main Library, the

El Paso Public Library Literacy Center services are ongoing

and FREE to the public:

  1. Information and Referral The Literacy Center disseminates information and makes referrals to literacy agencies in El Paso County throughthe Literacy Hotline (915) 212-3245 as well as in-person information and referrals at the Main Library.
  2. The Literacy Center publishes and distributes a monthly calendar of classes offered in the El Paso Public Library facilities. This monthly calendar includes the contact information of the agencies working with the library to offerservices including the Adult Learning Centers at El Paso ISD; Ysleta ISD; Socorro ISD; San Elizario ISD; Clint ISD; Fabens ISD; Canutillo ISD;US Customs and immigration Services (USCIS); Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services; Consulado de México en El Paso.
  3. El Paso Public Library Staff have been trained to assist patrons seeking a variety of literacy-related services,including assisting patrons in reviewing and scheduling online appointments for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and housing applications.
