Program Overview

Founded in 1998 by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, DeNeuville Learning Center continues their legacy of dedicated service to women and families in need. Our mission is to empower women to improve their lives through education and community. We fulfill this mission by providing high-quality educational programs and support to adult female students who have limited resources. We also provide childcare services for the children of women enrolled in our programs, as childcare is one of largest barriers to a woman pursuing her education. DLC provides academic and skills based classes including: General Educational Development classes (GED) in both English and Spanish; English as a Second Language classes (ESL); Computer skills classes; Citizenship test preparation classes; and sewing classes. We also provide tutors for students who require one-on-one instruction, in addition to their regularly scheduled classes, as well as monthly enrichment workshops which address health and wellness issues. The GED program at DeNeuville prepares women without a high school diploma for the General Educational Development (GED) test. Upon passing, the GED credential provides certification of high school level academic skills. Classes are taught in the following subjects: language arts, math, science and social studies. Students are pre-tested during registration using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and assigned to GED classes based on their TABE scores and educational history. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish and are held Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to noon and Monday through Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
