Program Overview
PLAZAS COMUNITARIAS (PLACOM) Spanish Literacy for Seniors - This Spanish Literacy curriculum for Immigrant youth and adults helps students learn English easier. Plazas Comunitarias is the first Spanish literacy program of its kind developing the right skills and a path to learn English. This facilitates illiterate people learn how to read/write in their native language and then transition to learn English as a second other language. DCET sets up educational goals which include for students to finish Primaria (elementary) completion, in Spanish Grades 1 to 6, Secundaria completion, (Jr. High) in Spanish Grades 7 to 9, Preparatoria, or Bachillerato completion, (US High School equivalent ) in Spanish then Spanish language study for GED, or GED in English to complete the test. College Classes with modest charges to Mexican colleges can then begin for a Spanish language-degree from a Mexican university.

Classes are free of charge. We only accept a donation of: $65.00 as an annual Membership. In 1995 I founded DCET which it stands for DEBES CREER EN TI (Believe in Yourself), in Spanish. DCET acts as a one-stop-shop for our Hispanic/Latino families. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Irving and Grand Prairie, Texas for almost 30 years. Our Community Learning Centers are called: LA ESCUELITA (The Little School). OUR MISSION is to support intergenerational immigrant families in achieving literacy, life skills (youth leadership, mentoring, intercultural competence) linking them to community resources in a way that respects all races, religions, and cultures. OUR GOAL is to provide Intercultural competence training for both adults and youth to linking Hispanic/Latino families to community resources and to our Literacy Programs: Adult Basic Education (ABE), Computer classes, Citizenship exam preparation and (GED) High School Equivalency preparation. WE ENVISION To be a highly visible and trusted community learning centers locally, regionally and nationally through offering a dedicated team of professional staff We envision assisting Hispanic/Latino families in its majority, with their educational needs while building a future for them, their children and their future generations so that they can excel in what lies ahead in overcoming barriers and challenges related to having recently Immigrated to the U.S. Please visit our website: www.dcenti.org we are very proud of our work.
