Program Overview
As part of its 6-12 month paid job training and education program, CCNB provides its corpsmembers (youth ages 18-28) with 8-16 hours of classroom education per week. CCNB is a campus of the John Muir Charter School, a WASC-accredited statewide educational program that partners with local conservation corps, YouthBuild, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act sites to meet the needs of high-risk learners without high school credentials.
Corpsmembers can earn their high school diplomas, and take classes to improve their English language and reading skills, computer and math skills, financial literacy, and to learn other important employment and life skills. Eligible corpsmembers qualify for AmeriCorps continuing education scholarships ($6,095/year). Classes are held in the afternoons and on Fridays at CCNB's San Rafael and Cotati facilities. Nearly half of CCNB's teachers are bilingual, and all have their teaching credentials. In addition, CCNB trains volunteers who work one-on-one with corpsmembers to improve their English language skills and other subjects where they need added support or tutoring. CCNB also connects corpsmembers to additional ESL resources at College of Marin depending on their needs.
