Program Overview
Connecting Communities is a wrap-around program designed to improve the economic well-being of individuals in the Asian community in West Michigan. The program has four components: English as a Second Language Classes (with a focus on vocational English, or VESL); U.S. citizenship test study classes; job placement and internships; and professional development. The key program is the ESL/VESL classes for recent immigrants, non-English speaking persons and people with limited resources. Our courses will be offered in different languages and are taught by volunteers with backgrounds in ESL and education.

Most program events and services, such as VESL and ESL classes, are offered at no charge on a first come, first serve basis. Nominal cost of $50 for U.S citizenship study classes. Limited space available for programs. Costs subject to change.Student and Volunteer Success Stories
"I am very happy to come to VESL class every day. I have learned and able to talk in English with simple sentences. I will learn more English and get citizenship. When I learn more English, I will be able to communicate with my children's teacher at school so that I know how their grades are and what they do at school." - Suk may Thapa
"I am always happy to come to class and learn more so I can communicate with my American friends. I will be able to communicate with my children's teacher and know their grade and what they have to do at home. When I learn English I will be able to get a better job, too. I will be able to get citizenship when I learn English." - Aiti Subba
