Program Overview

The program utilizes the Texas Curriculum, which was designed by the Texas Educational Agency and promoted by the National Institute for Literacy. Classes are taught in self-contained classrooms where degreed instructors use a holistic approach to immerse students in the language. The curriculum is coupled with a functional, “real-life” approach so that students can quickly learn new skills and practice their new found knowledge at home, at work, and in the community. The program currently operates year-round with an average of 3 ½ hours of instruction per day, five days a week. Appropriate curricula and variety of materials, focusing on math, social studies, science, writing, and language skills allow adults of varying educational levels to raise their academic levels. Initial assessments place students in appropriate classes, and periodic testing allows students to mark their progress towards achieving their goals.
