Program Overview

Communities In Schools of High Point, Inc. (CIS-HP) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988 in response to a community survey conducted by United Way of High Point that ranked low graduation rates of our students as a primary priority issue next to health care. The program began with the Jump-Start literacy program where volunteers guide students through a curriculum for 15 weeks before the End-of Grade tests. CIS-HP is part of a nationwide, stay-in-school network that helps the community take responsibility for its own children and their education. We engage private business, human service organizations and faith-based partners in collaborative action to identify and meet the needs of students and their families. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS-HP fulfills its mission by connecting needed community resources to schools to help kids stay in school and prepare for life.
