Program Overview
The Clarksville Montgomery County Adult Literacy Council (ALC) was established in 1985 to promote public awareness of the need for literacy education in the area. It is a registered United Way agency that provides basic and developmental literacy to Adults in the Montgomery County and Ft. Campbell service area at no charge.
The ALC has serviced thousands of students under its various programs. In 2023, all seven service programs were combined under one program -"Literacy for LIFE Tutorial Program". The program emulates that education is a lifelong pursuit.
There are seven services offered under the umbrella of "Literacy for LIFE Tutorial Program". Which are the following:
High School Equivalency Prep (HiSET) Tutorial Service; Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) Tutorial Services; Digital Literacy for Senior Citizens Tutorial Services; Armed Services Vocational Battery (ASVAB) Tutorial Services; Literacy and Comprehensive Reading Tutorial Services; Conversational English Tutorial Services and 10-Week Citizenship Class and Naturalization Application Compliance Services.
A Board of Directors governs the Adult Literacy Council. Its day-to-day activities are managed by an Executive Director and the generosity of volunteer tutors and partners.
