Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Growing up was hard for Kyle. Drugs had been a part of his story since his youth, and he never felt like he thrived in a classroom setting. This led him to drop out of school in the 9th grade. He moved forward and pursued training as an electrician. However, it was during his training that he relapsed, found himself on the streets, and eventually in jail facing prison time. He was released but with nowhere to go, and his mother encouraged him to sign up for Adult and Teen Challenge in Azle, a partner of Center of Hope.

Within 6 months of being at Adult and Teen Challenge, Kyle started visiting Center of Hope on Mondays and Tuesdays to pursue his High School Equivalency Certificate. He met consistently one-on-one with his tutors to prepare for his GED exams with hopes to return to trade school and receive his Journeyman Electrician license. Before two months had gone by, he passed his exams!

“If I hadn't come to Center of Hope, I don't think I would have gotten my GED," said Kyle.

His dream to be an electrician remains but so does so much more. He now has a desire to serve others and pursue an Associates in Ministry. Through the help he received, the relationships he built with his tutors, and with his HSE Certificate in hand, he is one step closer to each of those goals.

“When I first came to Adult and Teen Challenge and Center of Hope, there was no way I was going to be in ministry," said Kyle. “All that has changed now. I'm willing to listen to God's call."
